i recently had our first child. a lovely baby boy. *finally, i have a
bit of time to write this short note about our obstetrician, dr steven
tan at the mater. *i believe its important to share my experience and
make other mothers-to-be aware of the sloppy obstetricians out there.
its truly unbelievable!

here is a short summary of what went wrong:

1) SCREWED UP MEDICAL RECORDS: we travelled back to sydney for my 3rd
trimester to deliver here, close to home and family (husband and i
both work overseas currently). *so we made sure to bring copies of all
the previous obstetrician's reports, blood tests etc. *so that dr tan
will have this on file. *he was supposed to send a copy to the royal
north shore hospital so they can also track my medical history. **on
delivery day, we turned up at the hospital to find out they dont have
any of my prior medical records. *for example, no blood test results
so i had to do the strep b test again etc etc. *you can imagine how
annoying this is esp when one is going thru heavy contractions!

2) DR. TAN DIDN'T TURN UP: after my water broke, i called dr tan who
advised me to chk into the hosp. *we promptly did so only to be
advised that dr tan was not on-duty and wud not be delivering our
baby! *bear in mind, i am fine with doctors covering for each other
for hols etc but
**- dr. tan specificaly told us a few days ago that he was in town
for the next few weeks,
**- and he shud at least have the courtesy to tell us during our
phone conversation that he wud not be there! **not a pleasant surpise
to find out via the mid-wife while in labour! *after all, i am paying
you private doctors fees of $6k!

3) NAZI-RECEPTIONIST: *i paid $4k of fees in advance. *the
receptionist screwed up the medicare invoice 4 times (yes thats four
times!). *so i had to visit the medicare office 4 times. not my
favourite pastime when almost 9 mths pregnant. *dr tan eventually
fixed it but had the gall to say "well you dont get back much anyway".
25% in my books is pretty good rebate from the govt. *to further
inflame matters, the receptionist hounded us literally every morning,
the first week i got home with the baby for the final $400 payment.
unbelievable!!! *she was worried we wudn't pay??? *crazy!

this is just short summary of what went wrong. *use dr. tan at your own peril!
