It is highly recommended to breast feed your baby atleast for the first two weeks. During this time the baby gets colustrum which helps build your babies immune system.

Not to mention the calories your body burns to produce milk - it's a great way to lose weight gained during pregnancy. It takes me 6 months of breastfeeding to lose all my pregnancy weight. And it's cheaper than buying formula;^)

I assumed breastfeeding was going to be easy, and I was totally wrong because it did not come as natural to me as I thought it would. I'm here to support anyone in their breastfeeding efforts, and I know a few tricks if anyone is interested (;

Most definitely it is, and it changes it's formula as the baby grows to provide immunity protection, hydration, and the right fats for optimal growth. Who knew our body's could do such an amazing thing??? It blows my mind.

Mom2boys - I had some difficulties getting started, too. What helped me was to see the lactation consultants a few times. It did not feel natural and it was pretty painful for the first week. I used the Lanolin cream and the soothing pads and just kep trying and readjusting my son's position until we both were comfortable. Oh, the Boppy pillow was a lifesaver!
Overall, breastmilk is definitely preferable over formula because of the ideal composition, immunity factors transferred to your child, bu it is also a great way to bond with baby. And, yes, to lose some extra weight. I lost weight really quickly while I was breastfeeding and it has gotten a lot harder once I switched to formula.
I breastfed for six months and started to supplement with solids at four months because my little one didn't gain enough weight - the doctor said it was time for some veggies and cereal.
