We’re a group of Georgia Tech undergraduates conducting research into redesigning the national nutrition label found on food and beverage packages. We’re focusing our efforts on presenting the potential risks of caffeine on pregnancy. In order to assess the effectiveness of our redesigned nutrition label, we’re looking for pregnant mothers and maternity care-givers to take a quick (5-minute) survey critiquing it.

Usability Test
The usability test is meant to help us identify ways to improve our carbonated beverage nutrition label draft and to judge its current quality. More specifically, we want to check whether our design catches the attention of pregnant women, and also whether they are able to effectively use it to determine that there are dangerous ingredients included, and what they are. The test consists of two sets of questions. The first set is meant to be answered before viewing the redesign, and the second is meant to be answered afterward. Completing this test should take no longer than ten minutes. The results and feedback of this testing will be used to make appropriate changes to our draft through an iterative process.
Participation in this test is completely voluntary, and you may stop or take a break at any time and for any reason. All comments and feedback are welcome and will be considered in any redesigns of the communication. Please click the link below to participate in the usability survey:
1. Please answer the following questions before viewing the draft design:
a. What do you know about the effects of carbonated beverages during pregnancy?
b. Do you frequently check ingredient labels on sodas?
c. What is your current highest level of education?
d. How frequently do you currently drink these types of beverages?
e. How do nutrition labels affect your purchasing decisions?
2. Please view the redesigned label as if you were considering purchasing or consuming a soda.
3. After viewing the draft design, please answer the following questions:
a. What purpose do you think the redesigned label conveyed?
b. Were the visual elements of the label effective in catching your attention?

h. How would the proposed labeling affect your decisions and attitude towards sodas?
i. How long did it take you to notice the pregnancy warning?
j. How do you feel about purchasing this product? Why or why not?
We greatly appreciate your time and participation, which will help us improve our nutrition label’s redesign. If you have any questions, please direct them to us. Thank you for your participation.
